Who we are
Our Story
FoodQual began with a simple but stubborn observation: the farmers growing South Africa's food are often the last to benefit from it.
Why FoodQual exists
A tomato that sells for R2.50 at the farm gate sells for R15 on a shop shelf.
The smallholder who grew it rarely sees any of that difference. We started FoodQual to close that gap — not by replacing farmers with technology, but by giving them a direct line to the people who want to buy what they grow.
What drives us
Our Mission
To build a fair, transparent, and accessible marketplace that connects smallholder farmers directly with the people who buy their produce — increasing farmer income, reducing food waste, and improving access to fresh, affordable food in the communities that need it most.
Our Vision
A future where every smallholder farmer, regardless of location, literacy, or access to technology, has a fair and direct route to market — and where no community has to choose between freshness and affordability.
What We Believe
The values behind every decision we make.
Fairness first
Farmers should keep the majority of what their produce sells for — not the smallest share.
Technology should adapt to people
Many farmers we serve have limited digital literacy and unreliable network access. We design FoodQual to work with that reality, not against it.
Freshness builds trust
Knowing where your food comes from, and how recently it was harvested, should be the norm — not a premium feature.
Reducing waste is everyone's win
A more direct supply chain means less produce lost in transit and more food reaching the people who need it.
